• Irish Golfers Charity Event

    Earlier this year the Irish Association of golfers held a very successful fundraising day at Northenden Golf Club. A substantial amount of money was raised and six charities were lucky enough to benefit from the event. Cornerstone was one of the nominated charities. Sr. Lucy and Sr. Maria attended a presentation morning where they received a cheque for £5,500 from President Larry McDonald. A huge Thank You goes to all the golfers who took part and for once again supporting Cornerstone. All our best wishes for the completion and grand opening of their new club house in the spring of 2016.

  • Cornerstone Annual BBQ

    This was our fourth annual BBQ provided by Christian Pepper and his team from Financial Options in Bury. We were blessed with sunshine and an abundance of bread rolls, burgers ,sausages, pizza's and salad. Our clients had being looking forward to this afternoon for weeks, they were not disappointment and a great time was had by all. Financial Options have been a huge support to Cornerstone over the years and we are eternally grateful to them. Christian and his team have very kindly promised to return once again next year.

  • Galway Association pay tribute to the late Dr Niall McDermott

    A cheque for £1000 was presented to Sr. Lucy by Rita Mitchell and Tim Joyce of the Galway Association to honour the memory of the late Dr Niall McDermott. Dr McDermott sadly passed away earlier this year; he held the office of President was secretary for 6 years and was a loyal and active member of the association over the years. He was also a friend and great supporter of Cornerstone. Our grateful thanks to Rita and Tim for this very generous donation and our deepest sympathy goes to the McDermott family. May he rest in peace now with the Good Lord.

  • Manchester Mayo Assiocation

    Over the past years the Mayo Assiocation have always been generous in their support to Cornerstone and 2015 was no exception. We were delighted at the recent very generous donation of £4000 presented to Sr.Lucy by President Marcella Wilkinson and Chair Person Patrica Gallagher. The Assiocation members have a great love for their Mayo roots, are very active in Manchester and are generous in their support to many local charities. We are extremely grateful for their continued support and this donation will be a tremendous help towards the day to day running of the centre.

    What a MessAround the Beginning of May Cornerstone received the use of 2 plots in “Southern Allotments” at a very reasonable price. With the long term goal to grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices to be eaten by the clients of the day centre.

  • Street2Feet Homeless Football Tournament

    On the 21st May 2015, Cornerstone FC entered the annual 5 a-side homeless Street2Feet football tournament, held at the Power league football centre in Ardwick, Manchester. It was organised by the national housing charity Chapter 1 in conjunction with StreetGames. 37 teams took part in the competition, travelling from as far as London in the south and Middlesbrough in the north. Although Cornerstone FC were unable to get to the final, a good day was had by all and for the first time in a long time many service users felt part of something positive , providing a much needed boost to self-esteem.

  • 80th Celebrations

    Mary, one of our volunteers celebrated her 80th birthday on Monday 12th May. There was great excitement at the centre with lots of singing, birthday hugs and kisses. Mary is a lively, witty and extremely active lady and helps twice a week to run our clothing shop. We wish Mary continued good health and are grateful to her for her commitment, reliability and all her help over the last 14 years. Happy 80th Mary from all at Cornerstone.

  • The Big Sleepout - On the night

    On Friday night April 24th, "The Big Sleep Out" took place on the grounds of St Christopher's RC Church at Ashton-under -Lyne. We were blessed with a dry night even though the weather forecast was less than favourable for the night. By 9 pm, 125 people of all age groups had registered, of which included Bishop John of Salford. A huge collection of food was then presented to Sister Lucy for Cornerstone, by pupils from the local primary and secondary schools. A short film was shown of the work which takes place at Cornerstone, and afterwards refreshments were served to all present. The atmosphere was electric, everyone was excited to be taking part and many new friendships were formed.

Cornerstone is a day centre providing services to adults facing a wide range of social issues including homelessness, poverty, social isolation, poor mental health, drug and alcohol addiction. We operate an open door policy and welcome people from all backgrounds with our aim being to offer support to our clients, improve their prospects and enhance their quality of life.
