  • Callenge 4 Change

A group of 10 clients visited Challenge 4 Change in Trafford Park on Tuesday to take part in a team building exercise based on an assault course. What a great time was had by all! The Cornerstone team faced up to all the challenges, problem solved, gelled as a group and supported each other during potentially difficult activities. These included high wire assault challenges; jumping 'the leap of faith' onto a trapeze; building a 4 layer birthday cake out of tyres and mattresses and standing on top as candles. Fun activities within an action packed setting. Thank you Challenge 4 Change for having us and giving each of our service users 3 hours of shear enjoyment along with plenty of scary moments! Well done everybody.

  • A Wish List – Prayers Answered

A few months ago we were approached by a company called Keepmoat asking if we needed any work doing in our centre. They asked us to make a Wish list! It seems they heard about us from ‘One Manchester.’ Keepmoat had been offered a contract with them and they then wanted to help a Worthy cause. Did we need them!!! We certainly had a Wish List. The showers and toilets were in pretty dire condition and they needed replacing as they are in use 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Our showers weren’t domestic type and they had lasted pretty well for ten years, but, now they were always breaking down, not made for 24 hour use. We needed electrical work doing in the Pods where our homeless are given a roof over their heads.

  • Join Us For Our 2017 Big Sleep Out

First and most importantly of all, we thank everyone that has been involved in our 2015-2016 Big Sleep Outs. Without your dedication it would not have been possible to give the support to so many homeless people during the last two years. In 2015 we raised a magnificent £47,000 and in 2016 we miraculously raised the same amount. Each sleep out proved to be a fun occasion, enjoyed by all who took part. Bishop John Arnold also enjoyed being with us and is going to join us once again this year. Bishop John will also be asking for sponsors, if you can’t join us for the sleep out, then maybe you will sponsor him!

  • Celebrating Our John's 91st birthday

Happy Birthday to our John. He is 91 years young today. Our oldest ever client. He has been coming into Cornerstone for a few years, has the most amazing voice, still works as an extra in loads of TV series and loves to complete crosswords. He loves the outdoors and comes on our occasional walks, he is so fit. Until recently he worked with meals on wheels.  He loves to come into Cornerstone as at one point in his life he needed support and was lonely and depressed. John also loves to come to our prayer meetings every Monday, often sings Solo with his warm dulcet tones, He always remarks how coming to the prayer lifts him up for the rest of the week. God Bless you John, enjoy your special day, we all love you.

  • Cornerstone celebrates 25 year of service to Homeless

Thank you to Irish Abroad 2016 for a fabulous fundraising spectacular at the Manchester Hilton on Friday 25th November to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Cornerstone's work with homeless people. The story began 25 years ago in a small port-a-cabin and today serves up to 200 people per day with a range of professional services that includes emergency and 4 half-way-houses for accommodation. Lawrence Bettany, manager of Caritas Community Services shared the fundraising platform with Francis House Children's Hospice. Lawrence introduced Musaab, a refugee from the Sudan who has been granted asylum in the UK and who is now housed through the Cornerstone services.
